English player Jordan Henderson admits he has encountered "tough moments" since departing from Liverpool for Saudi Arabia and says he could "taken different decisions".

The experienced player received backlash for exiting Liverpool in 2023 to play for Al-Ettifaq in a nation where homosexuality are criminalized.

Henderson had formerly been a high-profile supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and said sorry for disappointing or offending people in the LGBTQ+ community when he left Saudi Arabia to sign with Ajax six months later.

England Career and Thoughts

Henderson was omitted from Gareth Southgate's Euro 2024 squad but has come back to the Premier League with Brentford and the England squad under Thomas Tuchel.

"I don't think it was the factor why I missed the Euros," Henderson stated. "When I was in Saudi I believe I was in each gathering leading up to the Euros."

"Regarding timing, with everything in hindsight, yes - maybe I would have made different decisions."

"But at the period that's how I thought and the decision I made was for various reasons and solely I know them reasons."

Personal Struggles

"I am not going to lie, over the past couple of years I have had various tough moments. It was similar to a separation when I left Liverpool."

"Of course I'm not perfect and I've made poor choices in the past. Certainly I will have during my career."

"But all I've ever tried to do is the correct thing."

England Experience

Henderson has earned 85 caps since making his England debut against France in 2010.

He is in Tuchel's squad to face Wales and Latvia this week and thinks he still has much to provide on the pitch.

"The key people are the manager, the coaching staff and the players and what they feel," said Henderson.

"Question them what they think, if I am a motivator when I am here. I doubt one of the finest managers in Europe would be selecting me just to do that."
